Introduction One reason for noting in the last issue the hedge fund-driven hospital room consolidation of the past two decades is that Congress broke for recess this month before renewing COVID response funds, which expired on April 6. In the business and financial news, headlines of “inflation” fears abound, so Congress’ hesitation to print money is justified on that front. But COVID test sites for the uninsured are rapidly disappearing as five highly infectious Omicron variants circulate the globe. Also, hospitals are curtailing the frequency of their COVID reporting from daily to weekly and beyond in some cases, citing “saved costs” as a motivation.
